Fluconazole (Generic Diflucan) is an anti fungal drug and it works by slowing the growth of infection causing fungus. FDA approves this drug for the treatment of fungal infections.
The common dosages of Fluconazole are 50mg, 100mg, 150mg and 200mg. The dose is to be taken as advised by the doctor. It may differ from person to person.
Tell your doctor about your medical history. Take the drug exactly as told by the doctor. Do not try to take excess amount of the dose or overdose. Do not discontinue the medicine until the doctors instructs you to do so. It is necessary to take the prescribed amount of the medicine. It is usually taken once a day for several weeks. The duration depends on your response to the drug.
Intake of Fluconazole tablet can cause certain side effects, which may or may not be serious. In case any of these effects are observed frequently one must immediately consult the doctor. These side effects include headache, loss of appetite for food, stomach pain, dizziness, diarrhoea and heartburn.
There are other side effects which need immediate medical attention like fatigue, tiredness, dark urine, fever, yellowing of skin or eyes, rash, seizures, unusual bleeding or bruises, stomach disorders, difficulty in breathing, swellings (face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands feet, ankles or legs), itching and hives. In all the above cases immediate attention of doctor is needed. If any other side effect other than this occurs during the treatment it should be immediately brought to the notice of the doctor.
If you are allergic to certain drugs or under any other medication you must inform about it to your doctor. The breast-feeding mothers should not nurse the child with breast milk without the doctor’s consent. In case of pregnancy the doctor should be informed. The pregnant women should take the medicine only as instructed by the doctor.
Overdose of the drug may also cause risks of hallucinations or the patient might feel extreme fear in such cases it is advised to seek immediate help from your health care provider.
